MP Repro celebrates 50 years of success and innovation

Its work will be on display at the Maison de l’Architecture du Québec, May 16 to 23

Montreal, May 2, 2014 – This year, Montreal company MP Repro will be marking its 50 years in business. Since its beginnings, MP has seized every change and major shift in the printing industry as an opportunity to evolve, reinvent itself, and remain an active and innovative partner for its clients.

In contrast to hundreds of other Montreal printing shops, MP Repro has over the decades successfully adapted to an industry in complete transformation, owing to the company’s strategy of offering specialized services and added value. In the 1980s, there were over 1700 printing establishments in Montreal, while today there remain but one hundred, at most. This dramatic change is notably explained by the recession and technological advancements in the Web and digital media.

In its meticulousness, the family business started by Gaetano Martinez has gone to great lengths to stay current and relevant. It has achieved this by investing in cutting-edge equipment, all while maintaining its personal touch.

“Taking risks is part of good business management. It’s a matter of being aware of the issues and carefully calculating the risks,” explains Carmela Martinez, Vice-President of MP Repro. “We have never shied away from change, and we always made sure we were the first to offer new techniques, new processes, and new services in order to stand apart in this ultra-competitive world.”

A celebration of MP’s 50th anniversary

Over the past fifty years, MP Repro has printed the project drawings that have served to build this city. Its projects of course include numerous buildings, but also the designs of métro cars, Hydro-Québec facilities, and City of Montreal maps. Architects, engineers, designers, urban planners, and students have all relied on MP Repro for the printing of their drawings.

An exhibition will showcase some forty projects that together will paint a picture of MP Repro’s history in Montreal. An homage to the contribution MP Repro has made to the development of the 21st century city that is Montreal, the exhibition also reflects MP Repro’s role and commitment to Montreal’s designers. It will be held May 16 to 23 at the Maison de l’Architecture du Québec.

“This exhibition is addressed to Montrealers. It asks them: ‘Do you recognize this project? Did you know that this drawing was used to build or make it? It was MP that printed it,” adds Nancy Dunton, exhibition curator.
